“Following a request by the deputy president, the public protector has decided to conduct a preliminary investigation into the above allegations with a view to establishing whether anyone in the presidency or the department of trade and industry might have participated in unlawful conduct involving the use of state resources or power,” it said.

  The Sunday Times recently reported that Motlanthe’s partner Gugu Mtshali has allegedly been linked to a scheme to “buy” government approval for a plan to sell helicopters to Iran.

  The protector would be able to determine whether “there are merits in the allegations that state resources and authority were employed to improperly enrich or advantage anyone for unlawful purposes”.  

The outcome of the preliminary investigation was expected by April 15.

we are not surprised at all...each and every ANC Conference is fraught with allegations, counter-allegations, comrades back-stabbing comrades, mud-slinging, criminal charges and even physical assaults.....This is the start of the succession battle in the ANC.

No, nwanawahaya231, by the time the finding come out, we will be campaigning for the guy after him, while again bitterly complaining about CORRUPTION and Service Delivery.

Seems to me the ANC'ers cannot hide their true intentions for more than 3 months !!!.....

it must be tense in the motlanthe household....with the dep president urging the lady to be cautious in her business dealings cause it might just cost her the once in a lifetime chance to become the first lady of our beloved south africa and costing him the chance to become a president...eish!
