Man sentenced for post bank cyber heist

A man involved in the Post Bank cyber heist was sentenced to 15 years in jail by the Hoopstad Magistrate’s Court in the Free State on Tuesday, the Hawks said.

“Teboho Donald Masoleng appeared before a magistrate in Hoopstad, and pleaded guilty to charges of fraud. He was sentenced to 15 years for his role in the heist,” Colonel McIntosh Polela said in a statement.

Masoleng was part of a gang that hacked into the Post Bank system and transferred R43 million into various accounts between December 31 and January 1.

He was arrested in Welkom on February 12 and was charged with fraud.

“On arresting him, police confiscated a Mini Cooper, which he had bought using some of the loot stolen during the heist,” said Polela.
