TWO female traffic officers from Ekurhuleni are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court today.

The officers, aged 32 and 40 years, allegedly solicited a bribe from a motorist in Kaalfontein outside Midrand.

Police spokeswoman Captain Pinky Tsinyane said last night that the two officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation at Republic Road when they allegedly extorted money from a motorist.

"They removed his car's licence disk and checked if it matched the engine number. They found that they matched. They then demanded that the man gave them R100.

"The men told them he had R50. They told him to go and look for another R50. He left and returned with the money. While he was driving away, the man saw the police. He told them what happened. They returned to the scene and the officers, who were resisting arrest, were nabbed," Tsinyane said.

Meanwhile, two men were arrested for drugs.

Tsinyane said police acted on a tip-off that there were people in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, who were growing hydroponic dagga. Police went to the house and arrested the two men, aged 21 and 25 years.
