Waterkloof boys parole board suspended

The parole board of Zonderwater prison has been suspended with immediate effect, the department of correctional services said on Tuesday.

“The suspensions relate to the ongoing internal investigations over the erroneous recommendation by the Zonderwater correctional supervision and parole board to convert the custodial sentences of convicted murderers Reinach Tiedt and Gert van Schalkwyk to correctional supervision,” said spokesman Phumlani Ximiya in a statement.

Tiedt and Van Schalkwyk were among a group of four boys convicted of killing a homeless man in a park in Pretoria in 2001.

They left Zonderwater Prison on December 16, 2011, three years into their 12-year sentence.

The same sentences meted out to their co-accused, Christoff Becker and Frikkie du Preez, were not commuted.

Ximiya said the chairmen of the Zonderwater medium A and B case management committees had also been placed on immediate suspension.

“Once the investigation has been concluded the department of correctional services will make a determination as to whether to proceed with a full disciplinary process against officials implicated in the matter,” said Ximiya.

It has been long overdue. How on earth can a murderer who showed no remorse be released like that? The justice system favours a few minority. Mark Scott-Crossley was originally sentenced to life in prison in October 2005 for the murder of Nelson Chisale after throwning him into a lion's enclosure in January 2004. The supreme court withdrew his murder charge and convicted him with lesser charge of being an accessory to murder. He was later released from prison after serving only 3 years of his 5 years sentence. On contrary, his co-accused was sentenced to 15 years and he's still in prison whereas Mark Scott-Crossley walks freely. The latter was released based on his skin colour. Now it's the Waterkloof 4 who have been released on early parole. If it were to be a black man who happened to have k*lled a w*hite man, believe me, 20 life sentences could have been a minimum recommended sentence. Pity it's a curse to be black in our beloved AFRICA. Apartheid is far from over until the racists rule again. If all those things have been happening in UK, they would have received life sentences. Our own African brothers still manipulate the justice system to favour the minority and those with money. CRY MY BELOVED AFRICA.

@ Mercdriver
This has nothing to do with colour, being paroled. I agree these murderers should not be paroled. They should be hung. But don't count out the thousands of rapists and murders, black and white who serve minimal time. it's trash this countries law system. Fukking trash.

I knew there is something sinister about their release.
