Driver rescued from Chapmans Peak

A 67-year-old woman had to be rescued from Chapmans Peak in Cape Town after her car veered off the road, the provincial health department said on Wednesday.

Spokeswoman Keri Davids said emergency medical services arrived at the scene around 3.30pm on Tuesday to find the car on a very steep slope, about three kilometres from the toll booths.

She said the car had travelled about 100m down from the road.

The woman apparently got out of the car once it had stopped and walked down towards the water to a safer spot.

“We dispatched two rescue units and a helicopter. The woman was airlifted, hoisted to a landing zone,” Davids said.

The woman had no visible injuries but was taken to Constantiaberg hospital for observation.

The circumstances around the accident were not clear.
