Mantashe blasts union

Numsa called to order

ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe has accused the National Union of Metalworkers South Africa of exaggerating itself.

Mantashe was responding to the recent comments by Numsa about the current ANC leadership.

The ANC will distribute policy discussion documents to all its structures, the leagues, alliance and the public.

Numsa deputy secretary general Karl Cloete said on Saturday the national executive committee of the ANC should be replaced post-2012.

"They have not been able to drive the implementation of the Polokwane resolutions and therefore we are very clear that we will, in our branches of the ANC, make sure that this current ANC NEC does not return," Cloete said, according to an SABC radio news.

Mantashe said: "Numsa will be coming to the conference as observers. When they are bold about what should change [it] is an exaggeration. They are making an assumption that there is no ANC."

Numsa has also drawn the wrath of the SACP's Blade Nzimande for questioning his dual role as the party's general secretary and minister of Higher Education.

A fuming Nzimande rebuked the union, saying only the SACP could decide on the matter.

"Its none of their business, especially if they chose to bring such an issue in the media."

ANC head of policy Jeff Radebe yesterday announced that all party members were within their rights to review and amend all policy positions adopted by the party in 2007 in Polokwane.

"There are no holy cows, all members are at liberty to review ANC policies," he said.
