Connecting with Zuma
A CRACKDOWN on corruption, poor service delivery and an improved education system were some of the concerns raised by South Africans to President Jacob Zuma ahead of his State of the Nation Address last night.
Zuma's office created a Facebook page and asked people to write to the president about their concerns, which formed part of his address in Parliament.
Nkensani Nelly wrote to Zuma: "Dear Mr President, Corruption is the main problem. I've been looking for a job but it seems as if, if you don't have a friend of a friend on top, you'll never make it in South Africa."
Mofepi Nkole said: "Dear Mr President, I am not sure if u get to read all the posts but i hope u do. There is still a lot of corruption and nepotism in our govt. We are tired of being overlooked for positions, how do we resolve this, we need jobs."
Hans Medupe said: "How do you tell someone at high school to study hard but there are graduates that have studied computer science, information technology, engineering, accounting that are not working and they end up selling tomatoes in Joburg CBD?
"Mr President do you know a place called Brits? Things are not going well there - no water, sanitation in Maboloka. PLEASE HELP!!!"
Daniel Magagula said: "Dear Mr President Jacob Zuma, u have all the right policies in place, u are just lacking the skilled people in the departments. I suggest you encourage taking a girl child to work and also don't forget the boy child.
"I suggest you don't run for the second term of office but follow your dream of a black-owned bank. I think you have the go-getter drive and the perseverance to succeed. You are a bad president, after all.
"U are doing a good job even the money market agrees with u, Msholozi."
Steve Mogoru said: "Improve education, build a university where there is none in the province."
Peter van Rooyen said: "Dear Mr President, I hope corruption in government will be made a priority in tonight's (Thursday) speech..."
Tinyiko Baloyi said: "Dear Msholozi, "I wait in anticipation to hear from you about the finer details of how and when the University of the Northern Cape will be turned into a lasting reality. Enjoy the moment sir!!!"

He told us before that he will crack down on corruption - and then had to be badgered by the media and public protector to act against Cele and other corrupt officials. Under his watch the teavelgate ministers had their "debts" written off and are still warming the parliament benches. Can we take his new commitment seriously?Report Abuse

I understand that President Zuma has failed in most of the things he promised in the past, but i doubt if any other president could have done better, especially when you consider the conditions the poor man is working under. We must understand that President Zuma is not only opposed by DA, COPE and other parties, the bigest opposition for Zuma is right from within the ANC by people who were suposed to be helping him fulfill his mandate. Fights for positions in the ANC has reached a level where most of the senior leaders in the party no longer care about service delivery. All they want is to see Zuma going down. Night Meetings are held to plot against one of their own. The disciplinary charges that Malema is facing are now more important to some leaders than service delivery. Zuma has appointed people that he trust to lead the departments and serve the nation that elected them, but these people, instead of serving the nation, they stab him from behind and plot to bring him down. Limpopo is an example of a province with leadership that works against the president. Mathale is so occupied with issues that are non of his concern, the disciplinary charges against Malema and his cronies, that he even forgot to monitor the use of public funds by his administration. This has left the province with no money to pay public servants, something which could be understood if it was happening in Swaziland or Zimbabwe. Mathale's actions to work against Zuma are meant to cast Zuma's administration as poor and one that can't fulfill its promises. Except for opposition from within his own party, the economic instability that is affecting the whole world also plays its role into making sure that some of the promises like job creation are affected. So people, let no one tell you lies and say they could have done better than Zuma. Even Motlanthe himself cannot do anything under the present circumstances Zuma is facing, so let's be fair on him.Report Abuse

@ Patsekg.. I have to agree with you on some points. The goverment can not fuction because of the infighting, they spent half their time looking over their shoulders for enemies and the other half on corrupt dealings. I dont agree with you that no one can do better than Zuma under these circumstances. If Zuma could bring Malema to a stop he can stop the looting and corruption too. Bring back Mbeki... he had guts and is a true leader! That is if Cyril Ramaphosa or Trevor Manual or Helen Zille is not available....Report Abuse

Siyabonga Nxamalala KaMsholozi, the most important thing is to deal with corrupt officials. Those who think of former president coming back are only in hallucinations. Thabo had his term, this is your time, make the best out of it. Leave a mark, deal with all thieves steal from the national purse. Malema knows nothing about African National Congress. Do not be scared of ants, you have the masses support behind you. We worked for this organization before Malema was even born. Unity within the movement in another huge task you are faced with. ANCYL must know its place within the mother body. You are guaranteed the second term, just deal with currupt elemts, built the pure organizational culture with moral ethics, restore the dignity this movement is known of. DA will never rule this country as long we are still live, maybe the next generation in the 22nd Century will come and sellout the revolution. If need be will shall once more put our lives on the line in defence of the revolution. Have no fear, fovour no one. VIVA Msholozi, long live the people's presidentReport Abuse

The anc was an organitation that fought for us to be f.ree from oppression, now we need a party to take us down the road to economic success. Let us not become another african country to be enslaved by the very party that gave us freedom.Report Abuse
