Mayor probed over car crash
THE Hawks are investigating discrepancies in a report submitted by Musina local municipality mayor Carol Phiri after she was involved in an accident earlier last month.
WRONG NUMBER: Mayor Carol Phiri's car after the accident.Phiri allegedly submitted a questionable case number to insurers Alexander Forbes relating to the accident.
According to the police, official records of the incident do not exist.
On January 11 Phiri's official vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz ML500 SUV, was involved in an accident. She was apparently on her way to Johannesburg for a magazine photo shoot.
The mayor's damaged car is currently held at CW Towing in Polokwane, and it's not clear when it's going to be fixed.
Cope in the province has opened fraud charges against Phiri, whom they accuse of lying. Tshilidzi Ravhuanzwo of Cope said Phiri was driving herself at the time of the accident and failed to report it to the police. But Phiri denies this.
Ravhuanzwo said the case number relates to an accident involving a Toyota RunX in Pretoria.
According to claims submitted to Alexander Forbes, the accident happened when Phiri's driver, Cecilia Letsoalo, suddenly felt dizzy and lost control of the vehicle near Meropa Casino in Polokwane.
Letsoalo said though she and the mayor were not injured, they still consulted a doctor.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the case number PT59/01/2012, does not exist.
"The mayor needs to tell us who attended to the accident, because on our records the accident was not reported on the day she says it happened."
Municipal spokesman Wilson Dzebu said: "According to the information at our disposal, the case number is valid."

More ducking and diving which will waste our courts time. I am interested to know what caused Cecelias (driver) dizziness. Unexplained dizziness would rule you out for almost all jobs - but I bet anybody this Celelia has made a miraculous recovery.Report Abuse

I have listen to thobelaFM these morning,these woman cannot explain what happen instead she just cry and say god is great..... bla bla bla,accusing who wrote the report etc...1) Case number provide belong to pretoria central police station
2) She didnt explain if she was driving or someone was driving on her behalf
3) The is no police stamp on the accident report (AR form)
4) The force number is only 3 digit (of which it is not belong to SAPS)
5) The signature of AR for belong to assistant commisioner (of which these position does not exist in any police station)
These woman she have more question t answer
