'ANC businessman threatened me'

Feb 3, 2012 | Alex Matlala | 9 comments

A DEMOCRATIC Alliance leader in Limpopo, Desiree van der Walt, yesterday opened a case of intimidation against a prominent businessman linked to the ANC.

Van der Walt claimed Jacques Nell, who runs a printing company that has received tenders from the Limpopo government, intimidated her after exposing corruption linked to his company.

She laid a charge of intimidation at Polokwane police station claiming Nell threatened her.

The outspoken DA leader publicly said that the provincial department of roads and transport had failed to follow procedures when awarding a multi-million rand printing tender to Nell's company - Xerox Data Master.

Nell's company was given a R14-million contract to lease its photocopier machines to the department over a three-year period.

She also claimed the Capricorn district municipality had awarded a similar tender worth R7.3-million to Nell, under same circumstances.

She alleged the firm was appointed despite the fact that its competitors had charged in the region of R4-million to provide similar services.

She has also laid a charge of fraud against the department, saying the awarding tender process was flawed.

Spokesman for the police in Limpopo, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, confirmed that a charge of fraud against the department was opened at the Polokwane police station.

Van der Walt claimed she received a threatening call from Nell yesterday. This was after she exposed the rot in the department concerning awarded tenders to Nell.

She then laid a charge of intimidation.

Van der Walt claimed Nell ordered her to refrain from making wild allegations against him and his business.

"He said I must be careful because 2012 is not going to be a good year for me," she said.

Nell yesterday denied that he had insulted or intimidated Van der Walt.

"Van der Walt is venting her frustrations on me in view of the party's ward elections in Polokwane next week, where she had proved to be unpopular with the membership," said Nell.

"According to the culture of the ANC, we don't threaten or insult women but we empower them."

The fight between Van der Walt and Nell come a long way after Nell's failed bid to become an ANC councillor in Ike Maphoto branch in Polokwane last year.

He lost to the DA.

Yes do that and we will "Burry" them all, but just ensure that enough ANC's stay alive, so that we can vote them in again.......

Unfortunately the anc will never be thought of as a moral organisation again, it will be remembered as a

Corrupt,
nepotism,
thieving
lying
cadre deployment

crack house.

Mmmmm, does this name Xerox sounds familiar? Oh yes it sounds familiar, this is the same place which is on the news lately where it is claimed that Jacob Lebogo, who is Malema's close ally, was caught printing extra cards for the ANC Provincial Election Conference where Mathale won controvertially. Those who claim that Mathale won fairly, can they explain how the number of those who voted went to 146 instead of 137 that was declared initially? Can they also explain how 19 of the people who were mandated by their branches to go and vote for their prefared candidate abstained from voting? Surely there's enough ground to suspect that Mathale may have stolen the results and the ANC must investigate.
