KwaZulu-Natal premier condemns witch killings

Two recent incidents reported

The KwaZulu-Natal government on Thursday condemned the killing of people suspected of practising witchcraft.

“We call on our people never to use suspicion of witchcraft as an excuse to commit murder,” premier Dr Zweli Mkhize said.

He said members of the provincial executive council, during its meeting on Wednesday, urged communities to stop killing people accused of being witches.

In the latest attack in the province, Masisi Mhlongo, 50, Fanelesibonge Ntuli, aged 6, and 5-year-old Amahle Nxumalo, were killed in Maphumulo this week after Mhlongo was accused of being a witch.

An elderly couple, Rafael Zikhulu and Elsa Dubazane, were recently killed in Lindelani, north of Durban, for the same reason.
