Man fools cops for girlfriend - but not for long
He doesn't have a car, so he made up a story to get the police to give him a lift to see his lady
A man appeared in the Matlala Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after allegedly claiming he had been hijacked to get the police to give him a lift, Limpopo police said.
“Lesley Mabitsela, 30, is out on free bail,” Lt-Col Mohale Ramatseba said.
The matter was postponed to March 8 for further investigations.
Ramatseba said Mabitsela deceived the police on the night of December 3 last year by saying he was stranded at Rametloane village after the man who gave him a lift was hijacked.
“He alleged that eight men travelling in two cars hijacked the one he was travelling in, dumped him on the road, and sped away with the driver,” Ramatseba said.
“Police drove him to Mankgodi village where he said he was going. It later emerged that Mabitsela wanted to travel to that village to visit his girlfriend, but lied to the police as he had no transport.”
He was arrested and charged with perjury.
