Clan wants to come clean
MAMPHOKU-MAKGOBA community trust chairman Thupane Makgoba has blamed Limpopo department of agriculture for the collapse of 42 farms returned to the clan.
Makgoba said it was wrong for the forensic report to point a finger at the trustees since it was the provincial agriculture authorities who insisted on changing of provisions of the original trust deed.
He claimed agriculture authorities argued that the original trust deed did not provide them with the powers to intervene in the clan's affairs and "they will not be able to fund us without changing the trust deed".
"For example, they forced us to hand over control of the tea plantation," he said.
He insisted that authorities had to discuss with them the findings of the forensic audit "so that we can have a chance to reply".
But agriculture spokesman Kenny Mathivha said that authorities had to take back control of the tea plantation because it was lying unused and the land was deteriorating. The tea plantation was now being rehabilitated and production may be realised soon.
Makgoba clan head Kgoshi Mokopa Makgoba, who had been at loggerheads with members of the trust, demanded that the forensic audit report be made public.
