THE daughter of a woman who was given the only house built in the R16m housing project in Taung, North West, yesterday said she sympathised with the community that never benefited from the project.

Corruption multiplies the misery of the poor. Ignorance and poverty are fertile ground for corruption. If you want to see what I mean go to an ANC election rally in one of the squatter camps next time an election is due. The councillors will be dishing out cooking oil, sugar and promises using taxpayers money in the name of poverty alleviation to buy votes and the ignorant voters will buy the empty promises. There are many more Mendes and Marais out there taking advantage of the anti social elements populating the ANC led government. The ANC of the Mandela era is long dead.Report Abuse

The most expensive low-cost house ever to be built in Mzantsi, so if the directors are arrested then the work stops. What about the rest of the money, how will it be recovered?Report Abuse

So the tender went to a relative who split the money with the rest... well that is my assumption. where did the money go and where is the Govt in all this after announcing and promising people that they will be housed in 5yrs time.Report Abuse

So the ANC government is corrupt in all provinces that they rule......... One house for 16m....... Zuma must just step-down...... This corruption problem started with Zuma himself.Report Abuse

"The Hawks arrested the company's directors, Janice Mendes, 42, and Machiel Marais, 47, last week. Mendes and Marais are out on R1000 and R5000 bail, respectively".So, I guess Mr Marais and Mr Mendes are ANC members.

@pizozo & sugaarThe house was not built with R16 million, probable R45 000-R50 000, the rest of the money was shared by company directors.

It is true indeed that should you remove commerce from the face of communities, you will find a bunch of Slaves.I still wonder how the company will explain this. This is pure theft.
But anyway, we love politicians don’t we?

Typical anc, no matter how big your operation, if you spent 16 mil on a project you make sure there is someone everyday to make sure things is happening,I am sorry, I don't feel sorry for the people who lost out, you get what you vote for and deserve what is coming your way. The only people I feel sorry for is the ones who voted against this thieving bastards and who's tax money is stolen.

The Department of Human Settlements launched investigations and engaged the special investigation unit (SIU) last year. The SIU probe revealed that only one house was built.lol.....even my cat could have told you that! So this is what the SIU has to deal with? The house sticks out like a sore thumb, you dont need the SIU to tell you that, get an official from the department to go investigate the matter then only you you get the hawks in to do the necessary arrests.......And the suspects' bail is a bit low for poeple who "allegedly" stole R16m minus change. aren't they flight risks. They couldnt have finnished all that money, unless if they smoke crack!

You hire a builder to build a house for you.One of the questions you gonna ask is "e tla go nka howlong to complete" then you follow up on that, but with these bunch of fools they pay out 16m in 2006 and hope everything is order or they just didn't care as to what happened thereafter, or they were part of the whole set-up, now investigations and bail after so many years....sorry i fail to understand this.Bring Ray Charles and ask him how many RDP houses were built there, he will tell you, "three".Report Abuse
