Learners buying 'crib notes' for R2,500
Two traffic officers and a civilian will appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court on Monday for allegedly issuing learners’ licences in return for money, Western Cape transport MEC Robin Carlisle said.
“The two traffic officers were allegedly issuing learners’ licences in return for a share of R2,500, which was paid to the runner,” he said in a statement.
“The runner would SMS to the examiners the details of the member of the public that had paid the money, while the examiners are then alleged to have given crib notes to those that had paid.”
The three faced charges of corruption and fraud.
Carlisle could not confirm how many licences had been obtained this way.
He said those who got their licence by using crib notes were urged to come forward as witnesses.
“It’s your choice, but if you choose not to come forward I am confident that the police will track you down.”
