ANC centenary wine launched
Up for sale are limited edition wines from R3,500 to R4,500 a bottle while 'generic wines' are priced at between R100 and R140
TELEVISION soapie actress Rami Chuene is accustomed to landing major roles on stage and television - such as that of Thato in e.tv's Scandal - but this time she has moved into a different direction altogether in her latest role.
The actress landed the potentially lucrative business of packaging a wine range marking the ANC centenary celebrations.
Chuene's range of wines, marked ANC centenary celebrations, consists of both expensive limited editions and and more affordable generic wines, which are now available throughout the country.
"Besides acting I am also a businesswoman," she said.
She said she was also a wine collector and came up with the idea with a friend.
"I took the idea to the ANC, who accepted it. I am actually thrilled to have been given this opportunity to put my ideas into action."
Chuene said the limited edition bottles, each with a unique number marking all 10 decades of the ANC's existence, some of which are available on the open market, sell for from R3,500 to R4,500 a bottle.
"The open market bottles (750 ml) are from decade one to decade six, while those from decade seven to decade 10 will be auctioned off with art works that have been especially created by some of the country's leading artists.
"What it means is that you cannot bid for the bottle or the artwork alone.
"They go together and these are really limited editions. For example, decades eight and nine bottles are only two for each decade, while for decade 10 there is only one bottle," she said.
Both red and white wines are available.
Some of the artists who have collaborated include Mbongeni Buthelezi, Vusi Mfupi, Nkosinathi Mncube, Yda Walt, Nkosinathi Thomas Ngulube, Paul Blomkamp, Zolile Phetsane and Sam Nhlengethwa.
Chuene said part of the money will go to the ANC.
The generic wines are priced at between R100 and R140.

Nothing wrong with Rami spreading her business wings and doing business with the movement and nothing for the ANC to market and promote its brand.....Report Abuse

Apel, nothing actually WRONG with doing good business, no. But it does raise certain questions about the dedication of the ANC to have the interests of the poor at heart. It shows the true colours of a party focussed on benefitting the elite, and indeed "branding" itself as an elite organisation. So one hopes that they will do away with the rhetoric suggesting social responsibility.Report Abuse
