Call to adopt poor children

A WOMAN, whose organisation gave 2000 poor and vulnerable kids an early Christmas, has called on South Africans to be charitable and adopt poor children at Christmas.

"Children are for the community and that is why we spoil these children with food, drinks, entertainment and presents," Mihloti Baloyi of Khanimambo, an organisation dealing with home-based organisations, said.

Baloyi was speaking at the Giyani golf course on Saturday during the Christmas party her organisation held for orphans and poor children.

"There are many children who do not get any Christmas treat because of poverty and for the past three years we have been organising Christmas for them," Baloyi said.

She said the yearly function is organised to sensitise the community about the plight of poor and vulnerable children.

She said they were only capable of spoiling 20 children from each project and altogether they have had 2000 children who were given food, drinks, fruits and toys.

"We received the food and presents from businesses around Giyani who are in agreement with the cause," Baloyi said.

At the function organised in conjunction with Xihlenge Finishing School, the children and all those present danced to music.

Yvonne Makhuvele of Eskom taught the children about safety measures concerning electricity.
