Luruli was suspended with immediate effect on Friday.

The ouncil had accused him of absconding from work for four months without a valid reason. The embattled Luruli also faces charges of maladministration and corruption during his tenure.

The special investigating unit is probing the allegations. Municipal spokesman Wilson Dzebu yesterday confirmed Luruli had been suspended. Luruli had gone on leave on April 1 and was supposed to return to work on June 1.

Instead, he only returned on November 11, prompting the council to suspend him.

Dzebu said Luruli's suspension would be with full pay pending the finalisation of investigations against him.

"But because Luruli had sent his submissions through his lawyer, and council is still studying the reasons he has given, we cannot comment further until all legal processes have been finalised."

South Africans....... always hide behind what is always termed investigations, lets hope this time the municipality know where to drive their investigations...... we need closure to this issues that have been central to poor service delivery and stragered economic development if any, and as for the new council, well done... we are all eyes, no jobs for friends neh, and we all must benefit from the country's recources i.e land.

I really don't see why this person is suspended. They must fire this idiot, how can a person extent his leave buy 4 mnths without a reason and you still Suspend and pay the person. Aagggggggg man this is shi*t, we are working hard to egnerate more money for the govment from our tax then this.........

if someone is receiving a salary for FOUR months, during which time he makes himself unlawfully absent from work, why has the council not taken disciplinary action promptly, before any further waste of taxpayer's money? i suggest the accounting officers who are now charging him, should also be charged with incompentence, fruitless expenditure and mismanaging council finances. and the counciil should force the municipal manager to pay back all the money he received as salary for no work.
