SA stars fight for the rhino

THE fight against rhino poaching is in full swing, with Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton roping in top celebrities for its Save The Rhino campaign.

So far the campaign has seen Nelson Mandela Square management asking top athlete Oscar Pistorius and Afro-pop group Freshlyground to design rhino sculptures that were unveiled to the public recently.

Now the square has roped in the services of leading Scandal actors Sello Maake ka Ncube, known as Daniel Nyathi in the soapie, and Ntathi Moshesh, who plays Mo.

"We have asked the two actors to come on board and they have responded to the call to design two rhinos of their own, which they will unveil on Friday," said Square spokesman Huibri Schalkwyk.

"They will be assisted by professional artists in designing these two sculptures," he added.

The rhino campaign is run by the Square in conjunction with the Wildlands Conservation Trust, a non-profit organisation and registered charity.

"Our vision is a sustainable future for all and to achieve this we are progressively developing and implementing Wildlands initiatives across the country," the Trust said in a statement. "At the current rate of poaching we are set to lose over 400 rhino in the year 2011.

"Wildlands have responded by establishing a rhino conservation project, Project Rhino, starting in the Zululand region which aims to place rhino populations in KwaZulu-Natal under constant GPS surveillance."

Yes poaching is wrong, yes enviromental pollution is also wrong etc. But when will this stupidity and madness end? Can people really save this planet? And the question is why now? The real problem here is Satan and Sin. Isn't his henchmen and agents responsible for destroying the earth with their greediness and selfishness? Jesus Christ is the only saviour of this planet.
