Generations actress gets in on the act for Aids campaign

GENERATIONS star Katlego Danke says she feels honoured to have been chosen as brand ambassador for the Fezile Dabi HIV-Aids Benefit Campaign.

The campaign will be staging a big benefit concert on December 3 at the Abrahamsrust Resort in Sasolburg.

The annual concert features musicians such as Zahara, Hugh Masekela, Ringo Madlingozi, Nhlanhla Nciza, Sipho Mabuse, Ntando, Caiphus Semenya and many others.

For the past three years this concert has distributed about R1.6-million to about 18 non-governmental organisations across Fezile Dabi.

The campaign normally raises funds through music concerts to create an ongoing HIV-Aids public awareness campaign.

The initiative supports existing organisations that provide counselling services to people infected and affected by TB and HIV-Aids.

Danke, who plays Dineo Mashaba in the SABC1 soapie, said: "We all come from families and communities in which we all support each other.

"I myself could never have achieved all I have without my family and community. So I feel greatly honoured to be involved in projects that touch the lives of others."

Danke also said it was crucial for her to be part of the initiative because she had lost a family member due to HIV-Aids complications.

"We all know someone who either has virus or has died from Aids-related diseases.

"I strongly believe that ignorance is our biggest enemy when it comes to fighting the scourge of HIV-Aids.

"So I am adopting this charity with the greatest concern for all society."

Danke added that she had "adopted" the Fezile Dabi Benefit Campaign because she had felt strongly about the drive to stop the HIV-Aids from spreading.

"I believe that awareness and education are powerful tools to combat this disease, which is robbing us of healthy families and communities." she explained.
