Man held for boys' murder
THE man wanted for allegedly cutting the throats of two siblings in Soweto has been arrested.
The 34-year-old man, who has been on the run for a week, was arrested in Braamfischerville, Soweto, on Friday night after a tip-off to police by local community policing forum members.
He allegedly slit the throats of two young boys after arguing with their mother.
Meadowlands police spokesman Constable Sibusiso Chauke said they received information that the man was hiding in Braamfischer.
"Our members responded and went to the said address where the suspect was found and arrested. The house belongs to one of his relatives," Chauke said.
It is alleged that on September 24, the man had an argument with Busi Xaba, 31, the mother of the two boys.
The couple argued after Xaba accused him of cheating on her.
The man allegedly bit Xaba's cheek before fleeing to her house, where he slit the throats of her sons, Kamo, 10, Thabiso, 6, and fled.
Thabiso died at the Chris-Hani Baragwanath Hospital last Tuesday and Kamo was discharged yesterday.
Xaba said yesterday that she was relieved that the suspect was arrested.
"I feel free and safe for now. I am scared of him and hope that he is kept behind bars for good.
"He threatened to kill me and I am scared that if he is released on bail he will attack me and Kamo," Xaba said.
The man is expected to appear today in the Protea magistrate's court on charges of murder and attempted murder.
