A Pretoria couple has appeared in court on 12 counts relating to conspiracy towards the attempted sexual abuse of their young daughters.

They have pleaded not guilty.

Beeld newspaper reports the mom was in court yesterday, where she said that she had no idea why they would come up with "such stories".

According to the charge sheet, the parents made their daughters dance in an indecent way for people - often for men but at times other women were also there.

The 'clients' - who are unknown to the prosecution - allegedly touched the girls and some molested them with puzzle blocks.

According to the older girl, the parents also allowed them to be raped, usually for R100.

The incidents occurred in various places because the parents moved around a lot.

The girls were removed from their parents in December 2007 due to neglect. The next year, the older child told a teacher about the incidents of sexual abuse.

She has testified in court about how she had to dance for strange men in a small hall, explaining it as: "Mamma en pappa took us there because they were poor and needed cash for food and other things. And because they didn't love me and just wanted to sell me".
