MORE than 10,000 people are expected to compete in the inaugural Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Liberation Walk in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday.

Those who are expected to take part include Ekurhuleni executive mayor Mondli Gungubele and Gauteng sports MEC Lebogang Maile.

Celebrities who embraced the event include Carol Manana, Uyanda Mbuli, Khosi Zwane-Siguqa, Xolani Gwala and former Ekurhuleni mayor Duma Nkosi.

The walk comprises 17km and 5km events and there will also be a 5km development walk for school children in Ekurhuleni.

Organiser Prince Hamca says the historic walk, which commemorates the life and times of the Tambos, will be a family day filled with entertainment.

The event is organised by the newly established Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation, partnered by the City of Ekurhuleni and the OR Tambo International Airport.
