My wife infected me with HIV, says doctor

Sep 16, 2011 | Alfred Moselakgomo | 454 comments

AN HIV-positive medical doctor in Krugersdorp on the West Rand has laid charges of attempted murder against his wife

The doctor blames his wife for his condition, saying she infected him with the virus.

The doctor, who may not be named, laid charges at Krugersdorp police station after he discovered that his wife of two years was HIV positive.

He then also tested positive for the virus.

He told the police that he only realised the danger recently when the wife's 10-year-old child tested positive.

"For the past two years we have been together, she always insisted that she was HIV negative and that I need not worry," said the doctor.

He said that in May this year his stepchild collapsed at school and he took the child to a doctor, who referred them to a public hospital for a thorough check-up.

"The doctors at the hospital asked my wife if the child was HIV positive and she said no.

"The child was then discharged and we were told to come back in two days. But the child collapsed again, prompting doctors to undertake tests, including HIV tests," he said.

The doctor said he was shocked when the results came back positive and his wife allegedly confessed that she knew all along that she was positive.

"I feel ashamed that as a doctor I should contract the ailment in this way because I am expected to be an example to others," the doctor said.

He said his wife and the child had since gone back to her parents' home.

"We are no longer on speaking terms and I don't think I will ever forgive her for giving me Aids," he said.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya confirmed a case of attempted murder had been opened and that authorities were still deciding whether or not to charge the wife.

"The matter has been referred to the prosecutors and we are still waiting for them on the way forward."

This is a shame, but you a coward for leaving her now. If she had it long before she should have told you but you were, happily married and should go through this together what she did was wrong. The deed has been done.If you let her get arrested whats going to happen to the child.

My condolences to you and if you know that you can still live a happy ,healthy life the ball is in your court

This is an unfortunate situation and i don't want to blame anyone but that woman as she confess that she knows her status that she is HIV positive, she was supposed to tell the Dr or maybe she was scared that she will be dumped...........the law allowed someone to be charged with attempted murder if you knows your status and infect someone deliberately....shame

Pabi

unfortunately doctor you are infected and u will regret for the rest of your life, but u are not the only one who is doing this mistake even though u are a doctor fact is u are a human being, and u do mistakes sometimes, how many of us trusting our partners with our lives, believing them that they are negative even though we didn't see the test result, u were betrayed in the name of love. but advantage is u are a doctor u know how to take care of yourself from now on but u must not take that anger out to someone else that u are going to meet in future condomise wayawaya.
