Gigaba throws 40th birthday bash

PUBLIC Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba turned 40 on Friday and was treated to a bash at the ritzy Raddison Blu Hotel in Sandton.

Though Gigaba said most government ministers were invited, as well as ANC heavyweights, none turned up. A source close to Gigaba said ministers Fikile Mbalula, Paul Mashatile and Jeff Radebe had confirmed their attendance.

"People are busy," Gigaba said when asked why he thought the ministers hadn't come.

The event, MCeed by socialite Uyanda Mbuli, was surprisingly unpretentious.

Gigaba and friends, including Joburg mayor Parks Tau, made speeches after which guests hit the dance floor.

Gigaba, who has recently separated from his wife Thabong, showed up with his girlfriend Norma Mngoma.

Noticeable was the presence of Khanyi Mbau. Sonia Sedebe, Augustine Masilela Chuene, Melanie Bala, Jimmy Manyi and Basetsane Khumalo came with their partners. Sonia Booth, Thandi Masondo and Vuyo Mbuli flew solo.
