Dismissal for cop who shot woman at station

THE police officer who shot dead a woman outside the Kempton Park police station earlier this year has been fired.

Sergeant Manape Phineas Kgoale, 38, was found guilty of "misconduct" following a disciplinary hearing into his conduct during the alleged murder of Jeanette Odendaal in April.

He is appearing in a criminal case at the Kempton Park magistrate's court.

Lieutenant-Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou said last night: "What led to his dismissal was that the committee found him guilty of a misconduct".

Kgoale had claimed in court papers that he thought Odendaal was a hijacker or a car thief after she crashed into a stationary car.

Ndou reiterated that the committee's decision to fire Kgoale did not have any bearing on the outcome of the murder trial.

Ndou said Kgoale had the option of appealing the decision if the court found him not guilty.
