More pupils 'faint at cursed school'

THE situation remains unchanged at a Limpopo primary school after more pupils collapsed yesterday.

A source claimed three more pupils collapsed during morning prayers at the Masegela Lower Primary School in Moletji GaSemenya, Limpopo.

The source, who declined to be named, said the three pupils had collapsed on several occasions in the past.

"Today's victims have been prone to collapsing since the problems started in March last year," the source said.

Charles Mashamaite, principal at Masegela, confirmed yesterday's incident.

"As in the past, we rely on prayers to resuscitate those who have collapsed," he said.

Meanwhile, lessons at nearby Bosemahla Higher Primary have not resumed after the meeting on Monday between officials of the provincial department of education, teachers and parents. Sowetan learnt yesterday that the parties had failed to agree on the reopening of the school. Teachers still report to the department of education's circuit offices in Polokwane.

Bosemahla was temporarily closed after 35 pupils collapsed during a prayer session two weeks ago.

Education spokesperson Pat Kgomo said: "I learnt that a meeting between all stakeholders is scheduled for Sunday.

"We hope to resolve these problems then."

Sowetan received a call from a Pastor Motebejane of Nkowankowa yesterday.

He promised to get "people with powers" to chase away the evil spirits from the schools.

Motebejane said it would take at least a week before the situation was resolved.

Mashamaite said they welcomed any form of assistance that would bring peace.
