The Mokopane High Court, outside Polokwane, today sentenced two men to double life imprisonment for two murders committed in 2010, police said

Limpopo provincial commissioner Lt Gen Amon Mashigo has welcomed the ruling.

Joshua Booysen, 61, and Esme Booysen, 42, were stoned to death at their farm, Zaaiplaas, near Mokopane on 19 February 2010.

The murderers fled with a Mercedes Benz, a pistol, and a revolver, all of which had belonged to their victims.

The car was later set alight and one of the firearms was found in the debris.

Frans Lamola, 32, and Clifford Malete, 26, were arrested on 23 February and were later found guilty of murder.

The two were sentenced to two life imprisonments each for the double murder and also given 21 years each in connection with the robbery of fire arms and the vehicle.

Mashigo praised the police investigation which resulted in the lengthy prison terms meted out to the accused and said it would send a strong message that crime did not pay in Limpopo province.
