Knife-man kicks down door and kills woman aged 72
A 72-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her home near Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
The woman was asleep with her granddaughter at home in Ncihane village, when a man kicked open the door at 8pm on Monday, said Lt-Col Mzukisi Fatyela.
Fatyela said the intruder drew a knife and stabbed the woman before he fled. The granddaughter was not injured.
“The police followed leads and arrested a man in the same village a few hours later.
“We suspect the motive for the murder was witchcraft-related, but at this stage I cannot provide further details on that,” Fatyela said.
The suspect, 52, would face a murder charge in the Elliotdale Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
