Graft is damaging ANC - Mantashe
ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe has penned a document warning that the ruling party is too soft on corruption.
The Sunday Independent reported that Mantashe cautioned that dismissing allegations against ANC cadres was doing vast damage to the party's image.
"The many high-profile cases and allegations against our comrades are not helpful.
"We can be dismissive of them, but the damage on the ANC image is huge," the weekend paper quoted him as saying.
Mantashe reportedly made the comment in a report drafted for the ANC's lekgotla, which ended yesterday.
"One issue that constantly cropped up in the elections research, even among our staunchest supporters, is that the ANC is soft on corruption and looks after their own," Mantashe said.
"This requires a system for processing such allegations that will send a message of an ANC that is intolerant of corruption."
The warning from Mantashe comes as President Jacob Zuma faces pressure to act against Public Works Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde and national police commissioner General Bheki Cele.
Public Protector Thuli Madonsela found this week that the two were responsible for maladministration regarding the lease contracts of about R1,8billion for new police headquarters in Pretoria and Durban.
Cosatu and opposition parties have said Cele and the minister must resign.

Blame it to President. This are the fruit of the seed you planted when firign Mbeki as a president. If Mbeki was still a presindent he would have foired all this corrupt offial including shiceka(masepa). I am sure some of you who voted Zuma as presindent you are regreting big time.Mbeki suspede Zuma as his dupity when he was under investigation and this was to run the states without black cloud on their head.
Zuma and hiw lawyers swaped the justice around and he still think that he is not guilty. I am forming my party that will contest agaisnt ANC big time in the next elexion.

At least now the ANC is beginning to see its downfalls. Corruption is going to cause the ANC the votes, especially from the poor people, they are tired of voting and at the end of the day they still do not have anything no jobs no houses. The money which the people are looting could have build so many houses for the poor. Gwede once said Malema has caused the ANC votes from the white people somehow he misleading the us. As long as the president does not do anything about corruption, ANC will go down because they are setting a wrong precedent. Imagine a poor person stealing bread from Checkers he gets arrested and sentence forgeting that a person stole because he was hungry but people take big amounts of money and get away with it. Watch this space - Mrs Cwele will get away with her drug case. It is actually so sad to see high profile people ruining people's lives. Imagine she gets a fat salary but still wants more money by smuggling drugs. Punishment is only for poor people.Report Abuse

@Mosotho, I fully understand you bra.No one is perfect bra even the same Mbeki of yours was also corrupt.
Why didn't he fire Jackie Selebi even if he knew the guy was a maffia???
Don't look at an issue becuase of hatred towards ZUMA but reason realistically.
Yes i agree that ZUMA is not doing well but the guy himself is trying his best just his comrades who are failing him.

Fire all Zuma's cronies and the man himself and put reputable people there. Manuel for president. The rot has long started and if you try to stop or report it you will be killed; That's the message the ANC corrupt officials are relaying to the public.".... that the ANC is soft on corruption and looks after their own," and this will go on as long as self-enrichment is the order of the day in the ruling party.

Now turn these words into action Gwede. I think Mantashe has cottoned on that the way to strengthen his position against the Malema group, is a strong anti-corruption ticket. The rank and file of the ANC are sick of all the corruption, and maybe Mantashe is the man to turn the ANC around. Mothlanthe for president and Mantashe for SG, I think they are serious about corruption.Report Abuse
