When it comes to transplants, South Africa has made several breakthroughs, all starting with Dr barnard and the worlds first heart transplant.

Well done.

That is why I am angry with the anc regime for repressing exertise and talents of our people through their contempt of our values and standards. Imagine if SA was investing on science and technology, likethe previous regime invested on our Agric, we would be the first world today.

Well done doctors, its really a great honour, and i wonder if it wouldnt have been better if we had a black doctor who could have been roped in to be part of that team to balance it.Just a thought,i'm sure we have capable doctors, dont get me wrong i do appreciate ALL doctors who came up with that developments, and i do believe it puts our country on the map,and we are proud of them, unless maybe there are no black doctors in that Dept in that institution..just a thought..

@ SKIZOBANTWANA - AIDS/HIV can be prevented. Its called a Condom. even better practice Safe Sex. This is a preventable disease but most people are irrisponsible and sleep with many partners and wives.

I will never give a cent of my money to AIDS/HIV research.

@ CrimsonRed, I am not going to call you "names", because I am sure that you have heard it all before. HIV/AIDS are not always the result of (consensual) sexual intercourse - people get infected also when they are raped (see high stats for rape in SA), through partners that are unfaithful (you wont have any control over that either), and as a baby when you are born and your mother did not get the correct treatment during pregnancy. Furthermore if you are in the medical field, the risk of infection is huge - you may one day have to stand by and assist at an accident scene, you get some blood on yourself, and you get infected ... another example, your child is at playschool, his/her friend falls, scratches him/herself and bleed, your child rush to help with a little "tissue" as kiddies tend to do, get a bit of blood on themselves, and - a few years down the line - your child has AIDS. I recommend that you read up a bit before coming to conclusions that holds no water.

Anyway, back to the topic - well done doc's - you make us proud - MAFTOWNCITY - dont fear - there has been many black doctors that have made breakthroughs in SA in the medical field - most recently in the development of the lubricant for women, which prevents HIV transmission - so - well done all around - just hope all of you stay in SA and dont leave for Canada or Australia!

@CrimsonRed - I agree with you. None of my money will ever go to AIDS/HIV research as well.
@maftowncity,Bolander - so suddenly everybody gets AIDS through blood transfers/unfaithfull partners ? Is there any stats available to show how many people got AIDS via blood transfers/rape to give your statement any credibility ?
