Dog owner faces cruelty charges

THE owner of a dog that was abandoned with severe burn wounds in Vereeniging, has been charged with animal cruelty, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said yesterday.

Inspector Marlien Pieterse said the SPCA traced the woman and laid charges against her on Tuesday in terms of the Animal Protection Act.

The Shar Pei cross breed was found abandoned and tied up with an extension chord on the side of a road last month.

SPCA inspectors took the dog to a veterinary clinic for treatment.
