Pretoria doctor's wife in court for allegedly plotting to kill a young man who wouldn't accept her sexual advances
A woman accused of conspiring to kill Blue Bulls rugby player Deon Helberg had her case postponed again in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to allow the prosecution to question three more witnesses.
Amanda Reyneke, 47, will return to court on August 16.
Reyneke, a bookkeeper from Silver Lakes, was granted R5000 bail in November and volunteered to check herself into a mental institution.
She allegedly hired two men to kill Helberg after he broke off their relationship. He had also been involved with Reyneke’s 21-year-old daughter Jalien.
The court heard previously how she threatened the two Nigerian men she allegedly hired, saying she would “find someone else in Centurion” if they did not kill Helberg.
A string of SMSs she sent to the men, some of them riddles, were read out in court.
In one of them she referred to a shaman — a messenger between the human and the spirit world — who she said had told her to wash her car with chicken blood.
In another, she warned the men “to be afraid” for lying to her about murdering Helberg.
Reyneke had also contacted a sangoma.
The Hawks arrested her at the Value Mart shopping centre in Pretoria last year, after she allegedly handed money to the Nigerians, believing they had killed Helberg.
The two “hitmen” worked with the police to catch her, and showed her a staged picture of Helberg lying in a pool of blood as proof that they had done the deed.
