THE establishment of an Inspectorate for Social Assistance will enable the South African Social Security Agency to better assist impoverished South Africans, the Democratic Alliance says
"The DA believes that the introduction of a robust Inspectorate is of the utmost priority if the mismanagement and corruption that is rampant in SASSA is to be abated," the party's social development spokesperson Patricia Kopane said.
She said Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini revealed in response to a Parliamentary question on Monday that the Inspectorate for Social Assistance, mandated to maintain the integrity of SASSA, had not yet been established.
This was despite being provided for in Chapter 4 of the Social Assistance Act, Act 13 of 2004.

Seems like social welfare in this country will only increase while economic growth will not increase at the same rate as social welfare. This social services provided by the state is eating away at South Africa's budget and is a recipe for disaster if nothing is done. Child grants in years to come must stop. Irresponsible people that have kids despite not being in a position to take care of them financially must not be allowed to have kids in the first place.Report Abuse

I HOPE THE INSPECTORATE WILL ALSO FOCUS ON EMPLOYEES OF SASSA AT LOWER LEVEL,THERE IS A HUGE GAP ON SALARIES AT SASSA,THE TOP(GRAVY TRAIN PASSENGERS WITH LESS THAN 5 YEARS EXPERIENCE) AND SPADE WORKERS(15-30 YEARS),SASSA GRANT ADMINISTRATORS WITH 15-25 YEARS EXPERIENCE ON GRANT ADMINISTRATION ARE STILL ON ENTRY LEVEL 5(LESS THAN R100 000 PA),THEY DO APPLICATIONS,CAPTURE ON SYSTEM AND APPROVE GOVERNMENT MONIES,ACTUALLY PLAY THE CORE FUNCTION ON POVERTY ELAVATION AND MOST VOTERS ARE GRANT RECEIPIENTS,SO THERE ARE HIGH CHANCES OF FRAUD TO SASSA OFFICIALS,THE DATA CAPTURERS AND APPROVALS ACCORDING TO SASSA MUST BE LEVEL 7,MAYBE THE MINISTER OR CEO IS HAVING AN ANSWER OR EVIDENCE-Report Abuse
