Accused denies rape as 'I cannot have erection'

A 62-YEAR-OLD man who told the Naphuno magistrate's court in Limpopo he had erectile dysfunction is expected to appear again today for the alleged rapes of two girls aged eight and nine years

The case against Maishe Rakgoale attracted huge public interest after he denied raping the girls, claiming he was no longer able to have an erection.

The case was postponed last week Thursday for a bail application after the state and defence counsel could not agree on whether he should be granted bail.

Rakgoale is accused of raping the two girls on February 10 and 14 at his spaza shop in Lenyenye near Tzaneen.

The girls had gone to the shop to play indoor games.

The court heard last week that Rakgoale gave each of the girls R10 and a packet of Simba chips after allegedly raping them.

The girls' parents became suspicious when their children started walking awkwardly and took them to hospital where doctors confirmed they had been injured by penetration.

One of the girls has not been back to school since the alleged incident.

"She says she is scared to go back to the school because everyone gives her strange looks," her mother said.

Education spokesperson Pat Kgomo advised the parents to take her to any school of their choice and the department would facilitate admission.
