'Tailored business and casual pieces that reflect European design with an African flair' - that's the message to potential customers

The non-profit organisation 46664 plans to launch a global clothing brand to raise funds and promote former president Nelson Mandela’s humanitarian legacy

“46664 needs reliable and sustainable income streams, something we believe the 46664 Apparel can significantly contribute to,” Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO and 46664 board member Achmat Dangor said at a press briefing in Houghton.

He said the NGO could no longer depend on philanthropy to fund both awareness-raising and projects like Nelson Mandela Day.

The clothing range featured modern, tailored business and casual  pieces that reflected European design with an African flair.

The foundation had partnered with Seardel, South Africa’s largest clothing and textile manufacturer, to launch the brand.

Brand ID, a division of Seardel, was responsible for the range’s  design although there were future plans for collaboration with leading local and international designers.

The clothing range would be launched locally in August at a stand alone concept store in Johannesburg, followed by distribution at local retailer Stuttafords. Merchandise would also be available online.

status aside, the shirts are generally hideous, they are actually worse that curtains or old sofas. i think people will get them not for wearing them but for their 'museums.'

Pains me when i see what this foundation has turned Mandela into. It is they own him now and all "royalties" related to Mandela belong to them. White people nogal.
