'Witnesses threatened'

THE murder trial of former apartheid-era hitman Joe Mamasela was postponed yesterday for investigation of intimidation of witnesses.

Mamasela, 57, allegedly shot and killed his landlord Lali Joseph Nhlapo who wanted to evict him in July last year.

State advocate Xolile Khanyile said some witnesses were being intimidated by a defence witness called Tsakane and asked for a postponement.

But the defence objected, saying the state was in a big hurry to place the matter on the roll without having done its homework.

Mamasela was warned to appear in court again on March 22.
