Girl killed for R10

A 16-year-old girl has been stabbed to death, allegedly by three other teenage girls, KwaZulu-Natal police say

The incident happened in Pietermaritzburg.

“Police found the body of a female lying on the ground outside a  vacant house. She had sustained a stab wound to the neck,” Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said.

Investigations revealed the girl was homeless and living in the unoccupied house along with four other youths.

“She was approached by three female illegal occupants of the house. It is alleged that the females demanded her to hand over R10.50 she had in her possession.”

When she refused, a fight broke out.

“One of the suspects produced a knife and stabbed her in the neck, fatally wounding her.

"The girl fell to the ground and thereafter the suspects kicked her all over her body.”

An 18-year-old boy living in the house called the police. Before they arrived the three teenagers fled.

Officers chased and arrested the three on Prince Alfred Street.

“The knife believed to have been used in the incident was found buried in the ground on the premises.”

The murdered girl was from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.

The three girls, aged between 17 and 19, are due to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Wednesday).
