Arrest sex clients, not sex workers

By Canaan Mdletshe | Sep 23, 2010 | COMMENTS [ 213 ]

PEOPLE who buy sex from sex workers should be arrested and not the sex workers themselves. That is one of the recommendations of the ANC's gender committee.

That call for action, discussed at this week's national general council in Durban, could place criminality of prostitution in an entirely different perspective.

"A study revealed that most women sell sex as a second option. So instead of arresting a sex worker, clients should be arrested because buying sex is by choice, whereas selling it is not necessarily so," ANC Women's League president Angie Motshekga said.

ANC speakers said justice was designed by men for men, as the market was male only. "However, currently the market has changed to include women. Accused persons going through the criminal justice system have different needs, determined by their diverse nature of being either female or male.

"Females are prosecuted and incarcerated on the same basis as males. The problem here is treating things that are unequal, equally," Motshekga said.

"The historical disadvantages that undermine women's rights and equal access to justice were not necessarily created by the current justice system. They are, however, reinforced by the identical treatment of women and men when accessing the justice system.

"It results in failure to respond to systematic social, economic and cultural disparities in society."

The ANC Women's League said the position of women in terms of access to justice is aggravated by their oppression based on gender, race, class, culture, language and other factors.

"Women and children have borne the brunt of ineffectual, insensitive and inept services in accessing the criminal justice system when they have fallen prey to, for instance, sexual abuse. In certain cases, the very role players they turn to for assistance and support have exacerbated the trauma, inducing further victimisation."

Some people are NOT born with gaps between their teeth but along the run they get injured or lose some because they are diabetic. Her gap between her teeth can be fixed. I repeat I find her not ugly...too much gaps can be quite embarrassing , especially the one I see in that picture - not attractive at all, we both don’t know if she likes it or not. I just wish she can consider a makeover and that does not mean she must replace what GOD has given her with false teeth (adjustment of gap can be done).
To me a beautiful smile is the first feature people notice and I will make sure my teeth are looking good at all times!

Hayi hayi hayi ungasiphambaneli Mama apha. Prostitutes are the protection of pure women. If there were no prostitutes, some men will go around raping every women out there. Me I can go to this joint in Camps Bay, it has beautiful Eastern European women at R800 an hour (oh Svetlana), damn they are worth every penny. They first wash you then follows Zuma's baby oil and the rest is history. Mama u Angie because indoda yakho likes to buy doesn't mean that you must arrest all of us, deal with your man.

Boys will always be boys.

Mme Angie seems to be tryin to make this a women's rights issue, nobody is forcing this women to sell.A lot of them are in it for the money.

I'm not for prostitution, but I think Motshega is trying hard to make this a problem created by men.

A lot these silly female politicians make their career by demonizing men. And of cause men never stand-up against this attempt at oppressing men, this ridiculous speeches will continue.

Mme Motshega stop demonizing men simply because you want to stay president of the women's league.
