FREE State police officers have been paid R28million for working overtime during the World Cup.
Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said yesterday in a reply to a Parliamentary question that all overtime claims had been paid to the Free State police.
About 44000 police across the country were asked to step in and provide security at stadiums hosting World Cup matches after guards from Stallion Security Services went on strike.
The police officers were reportedly promised R700 for a 12-hour shift and a meal allowance of R130.
But last week it emerged that though the World Cup ended two months ago, many police officers were still waiting to be paid.
On Saturday, Weekend Post reported that 3800 Eastern Cape police officers were still waiting for their money.
