Actress took bullet to save hubby

WHEN actress Thami Ngoma heard three men, one armed with a firearm, say they were going to kill her husband something in her head snapped.

Ngoma did the unthinkable. She leaped at one of the armed thugs. While she wrestled with the gunman the gun went off and a bullet went through her breast.

The incident happened two weeks ago at her home in Green Village near Dobsonville in Soweto.

A man was arrested for the crime at the weekend. He appeared in the Protea magistrate's court on Monday and his case was postponed to next week.

"My husband Ntokozo had just arrived home at about 11pm on August 27. He did not lock the door and had just sat down when three men came in and told us not to look at them.

"They swore at us and demanded cash and cellphones. I stood up and took my cellphone and that of my husband and gave them to the men," she said.

Ngoma said one of the thugs insisted on money and when she told him they did not have any, he struck her husband over the head with the barrel of a pistol.

"The one took my husband's sneakers and went outside while the other one went towards the bedrooms. I then leaped at the one with the gun and we wrestled.

"I saw a spark but I did not realise I had been shot," said Ngoma, who is recuperating at home.

She said the fight continued outside where she screamed for help.

"The thugs must have known that my husband had been paid on the day. Nothing else was stolen from the house."

Ngoma was treated at the Tshepo-Temba Private Hospital.

She is a cast member of the theatre show The Fat Black Women Sing and also features in the Sunlight soap bar advert.
