Cops move in on 'Moneymaker'

Sep 2, 2010 | Sizwe ka Banzi | 25 comments

THE life of Khayelitsha's alleged pyramid scheme kingpin began to crumble, with the sheriff attaching three of his cars yesterday.

Nine police vans and the sheriff moved in on Mzwandile "Moneymaker" Pato, who is set to appear in court on September 29 to face a R5million fraud charge.

Sowetan reported last month that Pato, who owns Fola Investments and Mthuthuzeli Funeral Services, was running a pyramid scheme.

He said then that people between the ages of 18 and 43 years paid a fee of R350 to "register" with him.

"They then get a job and training. Then they register others. After this, they get R910 a week," he said.

Pato denied that he was running a pyramid scheme but would not say exactly what work people did to earn the R910 a week.

Yesterday, police faced opposition from Pato's supporters who arrived in large numbers to "protect him".

Guys read this article correctly, this guy is not stealing from anyone. People are earning R910 a week. Problem is that they dont understand how people come to earning that money. This guy is suppose to be granted a chance and explain himself. Maybe that could just become mechanism to save goverment and the tolling unemployment rate. If I wasnt working I would join and earn R910 a week
