A MANGAUNG businesswoman Veronica van Vollenhoven says her contract with Free State's Mangaung Private Prison was cancelled for "no reason".
The contract was to run for 25 years but has been terminated after only three years.
Van Vollenhoven, pictured, is the chief executive of Dollattela, a black economic empowerment company, which employs 150 workers and has supplied the prison with clothing and bedding for the past three years.
The privately owned jail is run by G4S and corporate head Leana Goosen.
"There were instances where Vollenhoven's company could not deliver," said Goosen.
Vollenhoven responded: "For three years we supplied G4S with clothing and bedding, we did not receive any complaints.
"I smell a rat, I did research and found the company that took over is white-controlled, known as Cash Loans Services."

i understand its a BEE company but why woould one company be awarded a contract for such a logn time? shouldnt they be empowering otehr BEEs too? i would think that 5 yrs should be the maximum term of the contract, renewable on a yearly basis depending on the performance of the company...my viewReport Abuse

@Budi and Nes-u guys are right, how can a company be awarded a 25yrs contract??? Despite its private ownership, that prison still receive certain things from the government and that kind of contract is null and void..She can still seek recourse of some sort by institutin a civil claim for breach of contract. But i doubt she will have any locus standi given the questionable terms of that contract, especially the duration...Report Abuse
