Residents beat up rape suspect

A MAN who alleged raped a woman in Moletsane, Soweto, was seriously assaulted by the community, police said yesterday.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said the residents "severely assaulted" the man before handing him over to the police.

The rape victim was taken to hospital for treatment and counselling and the alleged rapist was admitted to Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital under police guard. The man will appear in court when he covers.
