Platinum Stars miss Oscar Ntwagae
Luckless soccer star Oscar "Oskido" Ntwagae had rejoined Platinum Stars on a three-year contract a few days before his untimely death on Friday.
As tributes poured in for him yesterday, it emerged that Ntwagae, 33, who was knocked down by a car in Germiston, Ekurhuleni, was scheduled to play for Stars yesterday.
After Stars beat Witbank Aces 3-2 yesterday team manager Obed Legoeate dedicated the victory to Ntwagae.
"We played Aces under immense pressure but we knew Oscar's spirit would rest in peace if we came out with a win. We did it for him."
Legoeate said club representatives would meet with the player's family to discuss the way forward.
Also known as "Dracula", Ntwagae was on his way home from Jomo Cosmos training.
"I came from Germiston mortuary this morning (Saturday) and can confirm that my son has passed away.
"Oscar was a very good person and the whole family is still devastated about the news," the player's father, Jacob Ntwagae, told KickOff.com.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns defender, best known for his crooked teeth and gangly physique, was born in Brakpan in Ekurhuleni on July 22 1977.
After a successful stint with Stars, Ntwagae caught the eye-of Sundowns where he spent most of his three seasons on the bench. He later joined city rivals SuperSport United.
He was part of the team that helped Stars gain promotion with the likes of Daniel "Sailor" Tshabalala, Koketso Mmotong and Dingaan Masanabo.
Ntwagae also earned 15 caps for Bafana Bafana.
