THE Passenger Rail Agency of SA is providing support to the families of the children who died in this week's Cape Flats level crossing accident, the company said yesterday.

Senior Prasa representatives were visiting the families and children still in hospital to extend a hand of comfort and support.

Nine children died and five were injured when their minibus taxi allegedly jumped the queue of cars at a level crossing and was hit by a train.

Prasa chief executive Lucky Montana said: "Prasa will provide emotional and whatever material support it can to the affected families during this time of loss.

"The tragedy has affected all of us deeply. Our staff who witnessed the tragedy are undergoing trauma counselling."

Police yesterday released the names of the nine dead children.

They are Liezel August, 11, Nadine Martinissen, 13, Michaela de Koker, 11, Jody Phillips, 13, Cody Erasmus, 15, Jason Pedro, 14, Reece Smith, 7, Nolan February, 13, and Jean Pierre Willeman, 13.

Police spokesperson Colonel Billy Jones confirmed that August, who attended Good Hope Primary School, was "Little Rock", the child who hit headlines when she was raped, set alight and left for dead at the age of seven.
