THE ANC says it is unaware that Nelson Mandela's house was bugged ahead of the party's 2007 Polokwane congress.
The Sunday Times yesterday quoted Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi as saying that a listening device had been found in Madiba's home during a VIP police unit sweeping exercise.
Speaking at the National Union of Metal Workers of SA political school a week ago, Vavi said: "Leaders who visited Mandela's home would insist on talking to the former president outside the house 'under a tree' for fear that the house was bugged." He believed the device was installed as part of the battle that was going on in the ANC.
ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu yesterday said: "We have read it and are following the story up. I have not heard about this bug before. I heard it for the first time today when I read the paper."
