'She lay in the street like a dog for 5 hours'

THE body of a 22-year-old woman lay for hours in the middle of the road as relatives waited for pathology services to take her to a mortuary.

Nancy Dlamini said her sister, Olga Dlamini, was knocked down by a car in Ivory Park, near Midrand yesterday at about 4pm. Dlamini said a pathology van arrived only at about 9 o'clock last night.

'This is the most horrible moment of my life,' the grieving sister said.

'She has been lying here for the past five hours, we had to cover her with blankets and wait in the cold.

'She lay in the road like a dog, the pathology employees did not even apologise when they arrived here,' Dlamini said.

She said the police said kept on saying the pathology services were on their way, but were nowhere to be seen for hours.

Police arrested the driver, who was alleged to be drunk.

Gauteng department of health spokesperson Mandla Sidu said what happened was unacceptable.

'I will have to find out what took them so long to come and collect the corpse.

'It is totally unacceptable that a corpse can lie in the street for five hours.'

Sidu said his department would investigate today.

It is amazing how politicians always say what happened was "unacceptable"! when are we going to get service that is acceptable and where were the police as the family waited for the pathology van to come? Is there no respect for the job people do?

How long must africans continue to suffer 16 years after democracy? I am certain that if the victims were of a different race the opposition parties would be calling for someones head.

Blacksheep, or if it was someone well known or their immediate family members, the pathology people or police would have acted urgently. Unfortunately, the poor lady is not known in South Africa and was treated as such. I feel sorry for the family about what they went through.
