Fong kongs seized in raid on music store

NATIONAL regulator of compulsory specifications authority (NRCSA) inspectors have seized counterfeit products from a music warehouse in Polokwane.

The supermarket was found to have violated consumer safety standards. The authority's inspectors, accompanied by officials from SA Revenue Services and department of health, police and the Polokwane municipality's compliance unit, raided music warehouse Dakota yesterday and found counterfeit products.

Most of the goods, ranging from cassettes, DVDs, play stations and electric appliances, were found to have ignored the country's safety standards and were seized.

NRCSA officials said the seized goods would not be destroyed until the warehouse submitted a compliance and safety certificate.

The NRCSA is responsible for protecting consumers against fake products that do not meet minimum health and safety standards and ensure fair trade.

NRCSA manager Thomas Madzivhe said they had targeted Limpopo to stop, among other things, counterfeit products that were being sold to consumers who were unaware that they were being exposed to fake products.
