'Prove it, Shenge'

A Zululand district municipality employee has challenged IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi to prove his claims that he had hired buses to transport Zanele Magwaza-Msibi's "friends".

Sphamandla Ntombela was allegedly singled out by Buthelezi as having been behind the municipality's decision to hire buses to ferry Friends of VZ Magwaza-Msibi to Pietermaritzburg in April.

Buthelezi allegedly told NEC members during an extended meeting in Ulundi on Saturday that he had invoices "in his car" that showed the Zululand district municipality spent a large amount of money to hire buses to ferry Zanele Magwaza-Msibi backers to Pietermaritzburg during her swearing in.

Hundreds of IFP members who are Magwaza-Msibi sympathisers converged on Pietermaritzburg to show their support after she was redeployed to the legislature.

Her redeployment was viewed by her supporters as a ploy by the party to cut her off from them and frustrate her prospects to lead the IFP.

Ntombela, a clerk at the municipality, denied having arranged or organised the buses. He also denied that the municipality paid for the buses and challenged Buthelezi to provide evidence.

"I know nothing about the claims. But if Prince Buthelezi claims otherwise, he must prove it.

"He must provide an official order, a voucher and proof of payment as well as state exactly when the tender was bid for and who won, otherwise his claims are baseless," Ntombela said.
