THE fate of Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza, who is being investigated by police over charges of intimidation, has yet to be made known.

Controversial Cope Ehlanzeni district chairperson and former provincial ANC Youth League leader James Nkambule laid charges of intimidation against Mabuza on June 28.

In a statement to police, Nkambule claimed Mabuza sent him an SMS threatening him and his family.

But nearly 15 days later, the police said they couldn't charge or arrest Mabuza because he is "our political leader".

They are also waiting for a final decision from the Director of Public Prosecutions on whether or not to prosecute him.

A senior police investigating the case said: "The premier is our political leader, we can't just wake up in the morning and arrest him."
